Children of virtually all ages enjoy the art of face painting. They just love the idea of having their favorite animal or cartoon character painting on their faces. But if you are a mother turned painter at your six year old kid's birthday party, the scores of little tikes lining up may just drive you to the brink of insanity.

Is it not every mother's nightmare to be in the middle of a dozen screaming children, clamoring to have their faces painted? And what if you are the only painter? What if the only design you know is Spiderman? We all know how long it takes to draw that complicated-looking web pattern. If you are caught in this dilemma, worry no more. Here are 5 easy kid face painting designs just for you. These designs are not only easy to do they are also immensely popular among children.

Design number 1: The Pirate. Pirates have always been surrounded with a certain degree of intrigue and mystery. When we hear these words, gold-filled treasure chests and impressive ships immediately come to mind. No wonder this is such a popular pick among children - male children to be more specific. This one is also pretty easy to do. All you have to do is paint on a beard and a pirate-looking sign on the cheek. You can also add a jagged scar across the face to make your pirate look battle-worn. Throw in an eye-patch and you will have created a genuine looking pirate.

Design number 2: Flowers. There is just something about the freshness and vibrancy of flowers that make them a fun pick to face paint. All you need for this design are 2 brushes of different sizes - one for drawing and one for coloring your design in. Pick a flower you want to paint, sketch on a design to guide you and then color it in. Pastel colors work best together.

Design number 3: Butterflies. Little girls just adore butterflies with their vibrant hues and intricate details. To start, draw a straight line along the length of the nose using black and end with two little antennas curving above the eyebrows. This will serve as the body. Then pick two colors that complement each other like red and gold. With red as the primary color, paint outward going across the cheeks using big bold strokes. Top it off with little gold dots.

Design number 4: The Cat. Cats are very warm and affectionate animals. Perhaps this is the reason why kids like this particular design. Start painting by sponging the entire face with white. Then add a little black dot at the tip of the nose. As cats have large eyes, you can add drama by drawing around the eyes and coloring them in. Throw in a pair of ice blue contacts and there you have it, Cat woman.

Design number 5: Batman. Spidey isn't the only popular pick for kids. A lot of children also love Batman. To create this look, trace an eye pattern just under the eyes, including across the nose using black paint. Then color it in. This will serve as Batman's "mask". Then finish off this look with two paper Mache horns at the top of the head.

If you do not get the results you expect, do not be disappointed. With this craft, you will only get better with practice. The more you practice, the better you will become and the more designs you will develop and master.
