Repair Broken

Windows XP is a pretty stable operating system as long as it is updated regularly with the latest patches released. However, it can get unstable at times if too many 3rd party programs are installed or viruses or trojans end up wrecking havoc in the system.
Poorly written programs, viruses, trojans, power surges, and other unfortunate causes can affect critical system files and possibly even the windows registry. Some of the problems in your Windows XP can be quite elusive especially if it's a system slowdown or a mysterious error message.
Before you start trying to find ways to fix it, you should identify the problem first and find out if the registry is really broken. The trick on how to repair broken registry in Windows XP is to perform various scans for problems and diagnostics outside the registry.
Improper tampering of the registry can cause even more problems so you should repair it only if you really need to.
Scan for physical problems
If your system is running slow, maybe some files are corrupted by a power surge or improper shutdown. Affected areas may include the registry too if some settings are missing. A quick disk check using the built-in hardware tools in Windows XP can detect and repair minor hard drive problems. Defragging your computer may even solve some performance issues.
Scan for malware
If your computer is acting very strange, most likely a virus or trojan running free in your system.
Never repair broken registry in Windows XP if a virus is present the virus may re-infect things that you previously fixed. Get rid of the threat first and then proceed to checking for registry issues.
Uninstall suspicious software
It is useful to periodically check your programs installed using the Add/Remove Programs item in the Control Panel. You may find some mysterious or suspicious programs that are responsible for corrupting the registry or causing other applications not to work.
These rogue software may also restore bad entries that are deleted by registry cleaners so be sure to get rid of them first.
Restart and do another check
After doing those three maintenance operations, restart your computer and see if the problem still arises. If certain settings can't be saved or missing items are found throughout your system, then most likely it is a problem in the registry.
Install a registry cleaner and perform a full scan
Now that you taken care of the physical and malware problems, you should be able to repair broken registry in Windows XP without going through much trouble. All you need to do is install a credible registry cleaner and do the longest and fullest scan possible.
After all the results are shown, make sure you save a log and find out if a backup option is available to avoid risks. Proceed with the cleanup and then do a restart after it finishes.
If the problem is still present, take note of the symptoms and find a registry fix online or use a better registry cleaner. If all fails, your registry may be deeply corrupted and a reinstallation of your operating system may be necessary. Fixing registry problems are much easier using the various registry cleaners out on the market if you taken care of the other problems first.
If you feel you havent gotten rid of the problem from the first three steps, then we suggest you try a registry repair tool from our resources section to get that registry straightened out for good.
