System Cobalt Blue
System Cobalt Blue

How many Cichlids can I add to my 55 gallon tank.?
I have a 55 gallon tank with two Tetra 30-50 gallon filter systems. I currently have the following fish-
1- Labidochromis caeruleus (about 3")
1- Cobalt blue (about 3")
1- Pseudotropheus demasoni (3")
1-Pseudotropheus Crabro (4-5")
1- Melanochromis Chipokae (male 4-5")
1- Melanochromis Autatus (female 3")
(I think these are the kind of fish by looking up pictures on the internet)
I am wanting to add additional fish but don't know what if any I can add or how many I should have total. Also, how can I add fish with out them getting killed because my other fish are so much older.
Thank you
I Have 15 in my 55 right now. and the aggression level is still pretty high. I have had as many as 20 in the tank and really didn't notice much difference in the aggression level. Your filtering will probably handle 15 fish or so. Keep in mind that if you add more fish and choose to overstock you will have to make sure you do your regular 25% water changes and do them right on time or you chance having your ammonia nitrates and nitrite levels spike on you.
You have several options when it comes to adding the new fish. (1) you can add them at night. (2) you can add them during the day and make sure you rearrange your tank decorations. Make sure you have lots of hiding spots for all you Africans. I like to use Texas Holy rock. you can also use various sizes of clay flower pots. (3) add several fish at a time and still do the other things listed above. You can add any one of the Pseudotropheus varieties.
Her is a link to one of my tanks. The website is a grat resource for cichlid information. Good luck!
